150 DAYS TO GO TO THE NITRO SUPERGP

Only 150 days now remain before the V8 Supercars Championship Series and the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport hit the streets of Surfers Paradise for the 2009 Nitro SuperGP, October 22-25.

Current V8 Supercar Championship leader and reigning champion Jamie Whincup and 1980 Formula One World Champion and A1 Team Australia seat holder Alan Jones -- both residents of the Gold Coast -- celebrated that fact today by taking in one of the newly branded Nitro SuperGP bus shelters in Surfers Paradise.

Both will be on track come October, although while Whincup takes the steering wheel Jones will be calling the shots from the pit box of A1 Team Australia.

"It is pretty exciting to be just 150 days away from this year's Nitro SuperGP, which is my home race" said Whincup, who won the event in 2008 before going on to clinch his maiden championship.

"Heading into the Gold Coast event last year I was leading the chase and I am leading at the moment, so hopefully history can repeat!"

For Jones the milestone comes shortly after the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport 08/09 season rounded up in Britain earlier this month, with A1 Team Australia coming home in eighth and the holder of the unofficial 'fastest pit stop' title.

"I really can't wait to get out there and showcase these cars on the Gold Coast -- I think everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised by their performance and just how fast they are," said Jones.

"I can't believe we are only 150 days away, it is pretty exciting to be so close and I am really looking forward to the event and being on-track.

"We want to win and will be doing our best, and we can guarantee the fastest pit stop!" laughed Jones.

The 2009 Nitro SuperGP, October 22-25, will be one of the first rounds of the 2009/10 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport and Event 11 of the V8 Supercars Championship Series.

The event is produced through a partnership between the Queensland Government and IMG - tickets for this year's event are on sale now through Ticketek on 1300 303 103.
