Round 2: A1 Team Switzerland on third and second rows for sprint and feature races

After an exciting qualifying session, A1 Team Switzerland qualified sixth for the ten-lap sprint race and fourth for the feature race.

Progress was made during the final official practice session on Saturday morning before qualifying in which A1 Team Switzerland driver, Neel Jani worked steadily through his assigned technical programme, focusing particularly on achieving a suitable chassis balance for tomorrow's races. Neel covered 11 laps of the technical 5.41-km Autodrom Brno to finish with a best time of

1.46.913 in fourth position.

Under the 2007-2008 regulations, each A1GP Team is limited to one 'flying lap' per session and at the end of the first two sessions the grid is determined. The team's fastest single lap from either of these first two segments counted towards the sprint race grid slot. At a sunny but cold Brno circuit, A1 Team Switzerland finished Q1 with a best time of 1.45.367.

In Q2 the team could not improve and finished seventh, with 1.45.918. The combined result put Neel Jani sixth overall.

For the Feature the same applies also for the last two segments, so, the team's fastest single lap from segments 3 and 4 determines the feature race grid slot. In Q3, Team A1 Switzerland clocked the fourth quickest time in 1.46.256and improved to 1.45.099 in Q4. The team will now analyse the data collected this morning carefully in order to find the right set-up for Sunday.

Neel Jani said: "I am pleased overall. It was frantic in the qualifying sessions. Finishing sixth for the sprint race was not what we were hoping for because of my brake problems. There was a leak in the system and I had a very long pedal, so I had to be careful. But the mechanics did a great job fixing the brakes. In the qualifying for the feature race, there was a lot of traffic and it was not easy to find a clear lap as the times went quicker. Team CZ for instance never let me through and blocked my run. I feel I should have been higher on the grid. We will really have to work very hard tonight to define the strategy for tomorrow's races.

"I expect the sprint race to be tough: being such a short race, it will be difficult to overtake. However, should we be able to find the right set-up, then we have a chance for the feature race."

Max Welti, team principal, A1 Team Switzerland commented: "Neel Jani and the mechanics did a really good job in qualifying for the two races. I feel we have been a bit unlucky. But the car is quicker than it looks, which is a good asset for the long feature race and we are not too pessimistic for Sunday's races."
