HO-PIN TUNG DEPRIVED OF POINTS FINISH IN CHINESE A1GP-RACE

Local hero Ho-Pin Tung was racing for again a nice points finish in the feature race of the second edition of the A1-GP Championship, this weekend, at the Chengdu International Circuit in China. But a simple air hose deprived him of a good home ground result. Despite technical set backs during free practice and qualification and a spin in the sprint race, the feature race looked promising for the young Chinese. Again he had one his super starts, climbing from 17th to 11th position after only the first lap in the feature race. Before and after the first pit stop Ho-Pin Tung fought hard battles with the teams of the US and South Africa. He managed to create a gap with Adrian Zaugg, the South African and he had a points finish ahead. After the first pit stop he rejoined the race in 10th position. A loose air hose at the second pit stop made Ho-Pin loose six positions. He managed to regain four of them with very fast lap times, with a 12th position at the finish line as a result.

'I am sure I could have finished in the points. After the successful seasons' opener at the soaking wet Zandvoort track I wanted nothing more then gathering more points for China in China,' Ho-Pin tells right after the race to his personal web site.

'But we had to deal with electrical problems during the free practice sessions, we lost valuable time and made not enough miles and to be able to find a good set up. Because of this lost time we kept following the circumstances all weekend, in stead of controlling them.' It is no wonder that qualification did not bring a good starting position for Ho-Pin. The bumpy circuit and the many red flag situations did not help either. Ho-Pin had again one of super starts in the first race, but a spin in second lap made him loose many positions, with a 17th at the finish line as a result. 'May be I was too eager, or I was too early with my foot down, I don't know, but a snap over steer made the car spin. I could catch up and finish the race. I was really fast in the feature race, one of the quickest on the track, but the loose air hose made a points finish impossible, unfortunately.' The young Chinese is happy with the progress the whole team made, despite at first sight disappointing stats. 'I am confident for Malaysia', he says.
