A1GP: Erik Janis picks up speed
Erik Janis used the first day of the second official test of the A1GP at Silverstone with further familiarisation with the car and also practiced pitstops. Nineteen years old driver was happy with his performance especially with the fact that he was improving both in the track and also in the pits. He ended with 15th time in the afternoon's session after he was quite a long time in the top 10. A top 10 finish is the aim for tomorrow.
Janis had shared the car with Jan Charouz during the first test three weeks ago but this time is Olomouc born driver the only one in action. Once again he can count on advices coming from his older brother Jarek who had raced for the Czech Republic in the last season. Erik found over half a second in the afternoon comparing to the morning. The most important fact for him is that he has adapted more and more to the car. He drove A1GP car for the first time during the first official test in August. He did 83 laps today and se 20th time of the day.
Erik Janis: "We are testing on the shorter configuration comparing to the last test at Silverstone, so it is no possible to have a direct comparison. I fell better and better in the car with every run which is very important for me. It is still not perfect from my side but the improvement has been quite a big anyway. I ran only on old tyres in the morning. Our engineers had to work on the gearbox settings and right height. I was too low and was loosing approximately 11 km/h on the straights. The afternoon was better although I spent a lot of time in the pits. One of the cars lost oil on the track so we had to wait until it was cleared. I did lap time on new tyres that put me in the top ten for a long time. We ended 15th and I take it as a challenge for tomorrow. I would like to be in the top ten. We spent a lot of time also with pitstop practicing. It was not too good at the beginning from my side but we improved it. I am looking forward to tomorrow. We have just morning session."
Antonin Charouz, seat holder: "Erik is still at the beginning but I hope that he will pick up more speed. I am curious to see his performance tomorrow."
Tomorrow's test starts at 10:30 and finishes at 14:00 CET. The live timing is available at www.a1gp.com.
