Team Canada put in another credible performance to add points to its championship tally in the Sprint race. Sean McIntosh stayed out of trouble in the hectic start and then managed to find a space on track to cross the line in the same position as he qualified.
The Feature race wasn't so successful with a slow pit stop and then retirement on lap 21 after going round a corner he was sent into a spin that ended his race.
Sean McIntosh:
Sprint race
"I got by Portugal at the start -- it was quite clean -- I was
expecting it to be a bit more chaotic but then it was a pretty lonely
race once it got going. The balance of the car changed a bit with the
warmer conditions so we've got a bit of work to do but it's points
in the bag and a decent start position for race two."
Feature race
"An eventful race -- as we went into the first corner it was pretty
hectic and I came out 7th although I could have probably made 4th or
5th if I'd picked a different way through the traffic. Then there was a
safety car and a stuck wheel nut in the pit stop . Without that
we'd have probably come out with clear air instead of behind Mexico and
Great Britain. From there just everyone was going off and I picked
passed Mexico and South Africa and Britain into the first corner. Then I
don't know what happened -- I got hit and that was the end of my race.
It's disappointing because I could have had another high
point finish."
John Village, Team Manager:
"It's been another good weekend for learning -- particularly for us in
qualifying but also in the wet and dry. To move up in the championship
is icing on the cake."
