A1 Team Brasil's Emerson Fittipaldi to appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Team Principal of A1 Team Brasil, Emerson Fittipaldi, will attend this year's prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, tackling the hillclimb in the Lotus type 49 in which he made his Formula One debut in at the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch in 1970.

Fittipaldi needs no introduction; twice Formula One World Champion (1972 and 1974), and the youngest champion in F1 history at the age of 25 until he was usurped in 2005 by one Fernando Alonso.

The Lotus type 49 is also steeped in history; the car in which Graham Hill and Jim Clark won their world championships, and the car that Jochen Rindt drove to victory in the 1970 Monaco Grand Prix. Emerson drove this particular car in the first three races of his F1 career; the 1970 British, German and Austrian Grands Prix.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is motor racing's equivalent of Ascot or Wimbledon; an extravaganza of sound and colour that has been described as 'the garden party of the Gods'. It is far more than just a hillclimb; it can justifiably claim to be the world's biggest and most diverse celebration of the history of motor sport. It is the only occasion where you will see in action the greatest competition cars and star drivers from all eras: everything from 19th century steam carriages to current Formula One; fabulous racing motorcycles; classic rally cars to 3000bhp dragsters; plus motor sport legends like Emerson Fittipaldi, Stirling Moss, John Surtees and Jack Brabham rubbing shoulders with today's hottest properties such as Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Petter Solberg and Lewis Hamilton.

Emerson Fittipaldi: "I thoroughly enjoy attending Goodwood. It has the best race car collection in the world by far, you see every single type of category and see the world's best cars in action. It is the only event in the world like it and it has an amazing atmosphere. The Lotus 49 was my first Grand Prix car and in that year, 1970, Jochen Rindt won in Monaco. But the special thing is, that by that time the car was already four years old because it was designed in 1966, but it was such an incredible car that it could still win a race four years later. It is very historical because it's the same kind of car that Jim Clark and Graham Hill won the championship with, so at the time I was the new boy in the old car! I raced my first GP ever at Brands Hatch in that Lotus so it is not only special because of its history, but it is very special to me."
