Laguna Seca: Max Papis race report

Max Papis finishes 7th at the 10th round of the A1 Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.

Sprint Race -- Driving the blue car for Italy, Max Papis started the Sprint Race from the 13th position. Unfortunately, Max spun on the first lap of the race, due to a tire pressure problem. He was able to re-join the race and finished in the 19th position.

Feature Race -- Starting from the position Max finished the Sprint Race, 19th, Papis was able to recuperate some track positions by battling with drivers like Brian Herta, Christian Fittipaldi, and Matthias Lauda, bringing Italy to a 7th place finish. Due to safety car periods, the checkered flag came out early at the end of lap 40, ending the chances of Max to attack and battle for a higher position.

Piercarlo Ghinzani (Team Owner) -- "I was shocked with the weather conditions, especially at this time of the year in California, which is always hot and sunny. I was very satisfied to see Max's quick adaptation with the car, and although we had problems in the Sprint Race, he was able to bring home a great result."

Max Papis -- "I am very proud and honored to have represented Italy. This was a privilege that only soccer players had it, but now thanks to A1 GP, this privilege has been given to drivers as well. I would like to thank my mechanics and all the team for this great opportunity and for giving me a good car. It was a shame we had the problem on the Sprint Race, but I am happy with the overall result. It felt great to drive an open-wheel car again, I enjoyed it a lot. Viva Italia!"
