Kerr's last chance for 2006 A1GP victory

Following the announcement that Robbie Kerr will not be driving in the final round on the A1 Grand Prix calendar later this month due to other racing commitments, the races being held this weekend are his last opportunity to score that elusive first victory for A1 Team Great Britain this season.

Darren Manning, the driver named to take over for the last event, will be on hand to pick up information from Robbie on the car and in return may well be able to give valuable advice to driver and engineers with his experience of the Laguna Seca track. A1Team.GBR had a mixed weekend last time out in Mexico two weeks ago but moved up to third in the Series Standings ahead of Brazil.

There are strong challengers lying only a few points behind and so both this weekend and the final event in China are going to be critical. With just nine points between A1Team.GBR and three other teams, competition is going to be strong for the third position in the overall 2006 Series positions so spectacular racing is on the cards. Laguna Seca in California, USA is hosting the penultimate round and a spectacular sight is anticipated as the A1 Grand Prix cars tackle the track's most famous feature -- the Corkscrew. The drivers will take the two turns from blind entry to a steep drop of around 7 metres/20 feet - the steepest gradient on any race track.

Robbie Kerr "I'm looking forward to the races and I'm focusing on what we need to do. The circuit's good and there'll be a few surprises -- you can't predict how the car's going to be on the track but I think there'll be a few corners that will really suit the car. It's a case of heads down and going out there to be at the front as always. We should have been there before now but for whatever reason we've not made that top step and that's where we want to be."

Round ten of the A1 Grand Prix series takes place at Laguna Seca, California USA on 11th & 12th March. The action will be shown live and in highlights on Sky Sports in the UK, and on www.a1teamgbr.com.
