Second A1 Grand Prix Race Won by Nicolas Lapierre on Cooper Tires
FINDLAY, OHIO, OCTOBER 10, 2005 COOPER TIRE & RUBBER COMPANY (NYSE: CTB) Cooper-A1 Grand Prix racing radials continued to blaze the track Sunday during the second A1 Grand Prix race at EuroSpeedway in Lausitz, Germany.
Drivers from 24 teams in the series, dubbed the World Cup of Motorsport, competed on 370/660R13 Cooper-A1 tires fitted to 16-inch wide racing rims. The 2.815 mile road course at EuroSpeedway Lausitz provided a great venue to continue the excitement generated from the series debut in Brands Hatch, England.
Lapierre won the qualifying sprint race to take the pole for Sunday's main event. He finished first in the feature race, more than three seconds in front of second place driver Robbie Kerr of Great Britain. Brazil is currently in first overall with 30 points, with France and New Zealand tied for second with 29 points.
"It is exciting to see the high level of competition and the points race shaping up this early," said Thomas A. Dattilo chairman, president and chief executive officer of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company. "We congratulate Lapierre and France on taking home the second win of the season and look forward to the next race at Circuito in Estoril, Portugal, on October 23."
Designed to run at very high temperatures, the Cooper-A1 tire's distinctive blend of compounds create a soft and tacky tire to provide an incredible level of grip by literally sticking the car to the track. Cooper has also designed a grooved wet weather tire to handle even the most severe weather conditions but with a construction that provides enough resilience to endure a full race distance.
