A1GP: Jarek Janis joins Enge for Taupo

Jarek Janis will complete alongside Tomas Enge the Czech line-up for the Czech team for the New Zealand's round of the A1GP - World Cup of Motorsport at Taupo. Twenty four years old driver has fully recovered from a massive crash at Spa in August. He will do the rookie sessions on Friday. The most experienced Czech Enge will again drive the main part and will fight for points in the races.

Jarek, older brother of Erik who started the A1GP season 2007/2008, has got already some experience with the A1GP but he is still qualified to do the rookie sessions. Both driver and manager Antonin Charouz consider it as a test of his condition after a long brake. Jarek suffered back contusion after heavy crash at infamous Eau Rouge corner at Spa. The young Czech was blameless after suffered a tyre puncture of his Spyker during the Le Mans Series race and hit the barriers heavily.

Tomas Enge hopes that he will get at least same results like in the previous round of the A1GP in China. He finished fifth in the sprint and eighth in the feature race at Zhuhai. The most experienced river of the Czech team started in Taupo also last year, so he knows the track in beautiful nature very well. He remembers well that he was quick there last year. However, he was denied of success due to damaged wing in the sprint and delay during the mandatory stop in the feature race. Tomas's lap times in the feature race were one of the bests.

The A1GGP race is the highlight of the season for the New Zealand's organisers. The track (www.tauporacetrack.co.nz) had been modified before its debut in the A1GP calendar last year and fulfils all demands of a modern track. The original track was only 1.4 km long but currently has 3.5 km. It is an anti-clockwise circuit with 13 corners and the main straight is 830 metres long. The organisers have prepared an innovation for this year, the main straight ends with a sharp chicane that should bring more overtaking.

Tomas Enge: "Thanks to the A1GP races I have had an opportunity to discover many interesting places, however, Taupo and the whole New Zealand is something really special. I am extremely looking forward to get there again. I like the nature immensely and this country, which is so far from the Czech Republic, offers countless beauties. It is unique feeling to race in this surroundings. The track attracted me from our last year's debut and we were quick there. Only damaged wing and glitch in the pits did not allow scoring points. If we stay out of trouble we should be quite high. The new chicane at the end of the main straight should make racing even more entertaining. Spectators can definitely look forward to it. There will be big scraps."

Jarek Janis: "I am very happy that I feel fit again after such a long treatment and rehabilitation and can drive a racing car again. The fact that it is an A1GP car makes it even better. The prime aim of my driving at Taupo will be especially a test of my condition after long break and, of course, I also want to help Tomas with setup of the car for the qualifying and races. I can not wait to get back behind a racing wheel again after long break that start in August after crash at Spa."

Antonin Charouz, Seat holder: "Jarek has been cleared to race again, so he will get an opportunity to drive in Taupo. We all hope that state of health will be okay also after his runs in the New Zealand. Tomas was quick there last year, so I believe that he will repeat it also this weekend and we will take points like in the previous round in China."
