THE NEW SEASON STARTS FOR A1 TEAM INDIA IN HOLLAND

A1 Team India will get its 2006/7 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport campaign underway this weekend at the Circuit Park Zandvoort in The Netherlands for the first round of the new season. Armaan Ebrahim, who drove last season for A1 Team India, will start the season for the team, and lead the charge for the team at Zandvoort, in The Netherlands. Armaan will compete in the two main practice sessions, qualifying and both the sprint and feature races for the team.

The team this year has a new seat-holder in Yohann J Setna, a Mumbai based restaurateur and motorsport enthusiast. Yohann has been very instrumental in popularizing motorsport in the country through Chequered Flag, a motorsport fan club, which he founded in 2001. He was an ardent fan and supporter during the first season of A1GP and was thoroughly taken in by the concept of 'The World Cup of Motorsport'. When the opportunity came up to take over the franchise of the Indian team, he felt that it was the perfect chance for him to ensure that India would have a presence in this most prestigious global competition.

Armaan has a unique record, in that he is the youngest winner of an international single-seater race, a feat he achieved when he won a Formula BMW-Asia race in Sepang last year at the age of only fifteen. He is currently competing in the Formula Renault Series in the UK. On his appointment as driver for A1 Team India, Armaan Ebrahim said: "I'm very excited at getting back again behind the wheel of an A1GP car. It is a source of huge pride to represent my country in the World Cup of Motorsport and I am utterly determined to make the team and my country proud. We have a highly experienced and professional new engineering team led by Mike Earle and I am confident that working together we will become a very competitive outfit."

After its highly successful first season, A1GP, the World Cup of Motorsport, has announced an expanded race schedule in Season Two comprising 13 events around the world, commencing this weekend in Zandvoort and ending at Brands Hatch in the UK at the end of April. Twenty three nations will be competing for the honour of being crowned World Champions. Greece, Turkey and Singapore are the new entries for this season. This title was claimed in the inaugural season by A1 Team France, who themselves are fielding the same driver line up in Season Two.
