Elkhart Lake, Wis. - Tommy Archer, driving the number 36 Motorcity True Performance Dodge Viper, finished ninth today in the rain shortened SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am for the BFGoodrich Cup race at Road America.

Starting from 33rd position after having his qualifying time disallowed, Archer raced through the field, passing 10 cars on the first lap. On lap 14, the Minnesota resident pitted for rain tires. Two laps later attempting to pass a line of cars, Archer aqua-planned going into the fast downhill turn five and brushed the wall.

With a torrential rain on a very fast Road America circuit, Archer was able to overcome the off track excursion and get the car into the top ten before the red flag. The race ended eight laps short of the scheduled 25.

"We started on slicks, but in hind sight we should have started on wet tires. But, we were way in the back so we had to take a chance. The yellow came out and it looked as if it was going to clear, but it didn't. We came in changed tires to wets and we were moving up again. The red flag came and they called the race, we could have used those extra eight laps."

"This is a weekend we will quickly put behind us. We did the best we could with the situation of the rain and starting from the back, proving the adage - when it rains it pours. We are looking forward to Mid-Ohio next weekend to return to our top running form.

The Road America race will be televised on Speedvision on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 2:00 p.m.
