Barbour Racing Texas penalty revised

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (October 29, 2000) -- Peter Lyon, the commissioner of Professional Sports Car Racing, the sanctioning body of the American Le Mans Series, has revised the penalty assessed by Sports Car against Dick Barbour Racing after the ALMS event at Texas Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend.

Sports Car had fined Dick Barbour Racing $2,600 and taken the points away from Car #51 drivers Sascha Maassen and Bob Wollek after the Texas results had been published as official when it discovered that the team had submitted an inaccurate driver's log.

The log indicated that Maassen had driven more than the maximum time that one driver is permitted in order for the two drivers to receive points.

Barbour Racing didn't deny that it had breached the rules but argued that Sports Car had no right to impose a penalty for the inaccurate driver log at that point. Lyon disagreed and ruled that Maassen should lose 11 points at the end and Wollek 10 as a result of the team filing an inaccurate driver's log.

The commissioner ruled that the original fine of $2,600 is voided and that the points fine assessed against the drivers is also voided, reinstating the race points for the Texas event.
