After three hours, the pole sitting Champion Audi of Marco Werner led the way at the 52nd 12 Hours of Sebring. Frank Biela, whose Audi Sport U.K. entry swapped the lead with the Champion Audi several times in the early going, lay second, followed by his teammate, Jamie Davies.

The No. 20 Dyson Racing Lola sat fourth, four laps behind the leading Audis, and one lap ahead of Ron Barff, whose Dallara Judd was assessed a penalty in third hour for running into Jan Magnussen's Corvette.

Ron Fellows, driving the other Corvette, was sixth overall and first in GTS. Fellows was six laps behind the leaders and three laps ahead of Oliver Gavin in the second Corvette, which brought out the race's first caution when it stopped on course due to a gearbox problem near the end of the third hour. Johnny Mowlem's ACEMCO Saleen ran third in GTS, seven laps behind Fellows's Corvette.

The American Spirit Racing Lola Nissan, driven by Scott Bradley, led the LMP2 class. Mike Fitzgerald and Mike Borkowksi sat second and third, respectively. All three were on the same lap. Two of seven LMP2 entries, including the class pole sitting Randy Lola Nissan, retired during the first hour.

Finally, Alex Job Racing Porsches held the top two spots in GT, with Timo Bernhard leading Lucas Luhr. Matteo Bobbi, behind the wheel of the Risi Competizione Ferrari 360 Modena, sat third in class.
