DeltaWing to start fourth at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, WI – Katherine Legge used every ounce of her Road America knowledge today, needing only one qualifying lap to put the DeltaWing into third position on the P1 starting grid and fourth overall for tomorrow’s Orion Energy Systems 245 at Road America.

Legge has raced at Road America on three previous occasions, terming the famed Wisconsin circuit one of her favorites. So it was co-driver Andy Meyrick’s turn to watch his teammate qualify in a 15-minute session that had its share of drama.

The team overcame a penalty incurred in the pits as Legge blasted her way around the four-mile circuit in the closing moments of the session to set up that one hot lap. At 1:55.362, it was the DeltaWing’s quickest lap of the weekend.

Katherine Legge "It was a bit of pressure, knowing that I really had to hustle on the out lap just to get to the qualifying lap. I couldn't afford to make any mistakes, so I made sure the Bridgestone tires were up to temperature and just went for it. There was no choice but to get it done, because all eyes were on us. In the end, we showed that when it counts, we can really get the job done."

Andy Meyrick "This track really does suit us. It’s a new circuit for me, but I've gotten up to speed pretty quickly. The car is well balanced, the Bridgestone tires are working well and the speed is there, so we feel really positive for the race."

The Orion Energy Systems 245, race six in the 2013 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron season, will be on ABC at 3:00pm Sunday, August 11.
