ROAD TO LE MANS WITH ADRIAN FERNANDEZ

Americanlemans.com will follow Adrian Fernandez through his first venture at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year. Fernandez will drive a Zytek 07S/2 in the LMP2 class in preparation for a potential appearance in 2008 with Lowe's Fernandez Racing and Acura.

Today Adrian recounts his first visit to Zytek for a seat-fitting in the car.

Last Wednesday was a very productive day, meeting everybody and getting to know everyone at the Zytek factory. We definitely went through a lot of things - the car, the logistics of Le Mans, learning the track and reviewing some data. The operation is very strong and everything looks very good. I thought they would put forth a good effort, but they look more focused than I thought. I'm very impressed and I know Lowe's will be too.

We talked a lot about the engine and the chassis. The chassis is really well sorted out. It looks like a very reliable package. We talked about the track. I've been playing on the simulator. I've been watching tapes, learning about rules that apply there versus the American Le Mans Series.

They said the car was very good on the Michelin tires, that they can be triple-stinted. There must be a lot of torque to be able to do that.

I leave again today and arrive Friday afternoon. We will do another seat fitting with the two other drivers to make sure everything is good. On Sunday, I'm going to enjoy every bit of it. The first lap I'll just enjoy the ride and enjoy the track. This is a track that has much history. It's like when I did my first laps at Indy. You go through your mind with all the history and the drivers that have been there in the past, the guys that you've heard about through the years. It'll also be the longest track I've ever been on so that will be a fun experience.

There isn't as much pressure here as at tracks where you have to push. It's a 24-hour race. You have to finish and you have to stay out of trouble. At the end of the day, you don't want to win by seconds. You want to win by laps.

I'll be back home Monday. I'll have an update with americanlemans.com on Tuesday and there should be a lot to talk about.

The 75th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is scheduled for 3 p.m. CET (9 a.m. ET) on Saturday, June 16 from the Circuit de la Sarthe. SPEED will provide 17.5 hours of coverage in North America starting at 8:30 a.m. ET on June 16. MotorsTV will air week-long coverage throughout Europe. Live coverage can be found on Radio Le Mans through americanlemans.com.

The next race for the American Le Mans Series is the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix, set for 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 7 at Lime Rock Park. CBS Sports will televise the race at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 8. American Le Mans Radio will have live coverage at americanlemans.com, which also will feature IMSA Live Timing & Scoring.
