Trois-RiviŠres, Que., CANADA (July 28, 2000) - Dublin, Ohio, driver Jon Field wants to do it all! In the American Le Mans Series race last weekend at Sears Point Raceway (Sonoma, Calif.), Field took his InterSport Racing Banana Joe's Island Party Judd-powered Lola B2K/10 from a last place start to a sixth place finish with a superb driving effort. The car had been relegated to last place on the starting grid because of a last minute tire change.
Field, who is the owner of InterSport Racing as well as its lead driver, hopes to start closer to the front of the grid this weekend at the Grand Prix de Trois-RiviŠres, a Grand American Road Racing Association event to be run on Sunday, July 30. He also hopes to finish on the podium, something he's been threatening to do all season. This will be the second Grand Am race for InterSport's new Judd Lola which made its debut at Road America (Elkhart Lake, Wisc.), where Field finished fifth.
For the Trois-RiviŠres race, Field's co-driver will be British ace driver, Oliver Gavin, who has helped with testing of the team's new Lola B2K/10 and has driven for InterSport in several races this season, including the Elkhart Lake race.
Field is currently 11th in the Grand Am driver championship chase in spite of getting no points for races at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Lexington, Ohio) and at Daytona International Speedway (Daytona, Fla.). At Mid-Ohio, the gearbox failed on his Ford-Lola B98/10 after only nine laps. Field took over from his twin brother, Joel, who was driving the Banana Joe's Ford Riley & Scott and took that car from 16th to sixth, but received no points because he was not entered as a driver in the Riley & Scott. At Daytona, Field finished fifth, but because of a logistical snafu, he had no co-driver and drove the entire race which precluded his getting any points for that race. Field is one of several drivers who are competing in both the ALMS and the Grand Am road racing series.
