LAS VEGAS, NEV. -- (October 28, 2000). The Banana Joe's Island Party InterSport Racing Judd-powered Lola B2K/10 qualified ninth for Sunday's Grand Prix of Las Vegas, Round 11 of the 12-race American Le Mans Series season with a speed of 115.284 mph. The race will be held on the 2.25 mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway stadium course, which utilizes much of the one-and-one-half mile oval combined with a challenging infield circuit. "We've been fighting the tires all week-end. We just don't have the grip we need to post the times we know this car is capable of", said Jon Field, Dublin, Ohio, owner/driver of the InterSport Racing entry. "We've made some improvements, but just not quite enough for this fast track."

Field, who ran the car in both qualifying sessions (one today and one on Friday), improved his times sufficiently to move up from 19th starting position to ninth. His provisional qualifying speed was 101.052 mph.

For the two hour, forty-five minute race which will begin at noon PST, Rick Sutherland, Los Gatos, Calif., will join Field as his co-driver. Sutherland has been InterSport's second driver for most of the ALMS season.

On the potential for a wet race (with possible rain moving into the area tomorrow), Field said, "I just like racing, so the weather doesn't really matter that much. We're not that competitive this week-end and, it's the last race of the season, so I'm just going to enjoy it and hope the breaks go our way."

The InterSport team will not compete in the ALMS season finale at Adelaide, Australia, on New Year's Eve. They do plan to run two cars in the Rolex 24 at Daytona (Florida) test days in early January, 2001.
