Knighthawk Adds Archangel To Bolster Assault

February 19, 2002, Road Atlanta, GA - KnightHawk Racing LLC and Archangel Motorsport Services, Inc. have joined forces to campaign the new MG Lola in the ALMS LMP675 category and the 24 Hours of Le Mans under the KnightHawk Racing LLC banner.

The two teams have each achieved tremendous success independently– KnightHawk in the American Le Mans Series and Archangel in the Grand-Am Series - and have already proven to be successful in their first joint effort. The two teams joined forces in this month’s Rolex 24, where their combined effort in SRPII earned them a class podium and 6th Overall.

“ This is very exciting for us,” says Steve Knight, co-owner/driver of KnightHawk Racing LLC. “ We have taken the very best of both teams and combined them into one for our assault on the ALMS LMP675 Championship and Le Mans.”

Mel Hawkins, co-owner/driver of KnightHawk adds,” It’s a perfect match. We both have great relationships with the same suppliers - including Lola and AER. We wanted to be based out of Atlanta, and our new shop at Road Atlanta will provide everything we need.”

Mike Johnson, owner of Archangel Motorsport Services, Inc., has been retained as the Team Manager for the joint effort. “ Having the opportunity to manage a program like this is a dream come true. We have worked so hard to get to this point, and I am confident we can do the job.”

Mike Gramke, formally of ROOCK Racing, has been retained as the team’s Technical Director. “ This is a great opportunity! The Archangel team is very good– as their record shows. Joining forces with them is a smart idea,” says Gramke.

Brian Anderson, the current Technical Director of Archangel Motorsports, will be the new effort’s Crew Chief. Anderson remarks,” I look forward to working with Mike (Gramke). His record in sportscars is very impressive and together we will be able to put forth a winning team.”

A combination of KnightHawk and Archangel team personnel will make up the remainder of the KnightHawk Crew.
