Archangel looking to break three-way tie.
September 19, 2002, Road Atlanta, GA -- Archangel Motorsport is looking to break it's three-way tie for the second spot in the American Le Mans Series LMP 675 Team Championship with a good result in round eight of the world-class sportscar series at Laguna Seca Raceway September 20 -- 22, 2002.
Archangel shares the second spot with rivals KnightHawk Racing and Team Bucknum. A good showing at the Monterey Sports Car Championships at the beautiful California circuit may even move them into the category lead.
Piloting the team's #13 Lola B2K/40 Millington 675 LMP will be team regular and Britain's own Ben Devlin -- who is holding a strong second in the hunt for the LMP 675 Driver's Championship. Devlin will be joined by Chicago's John Lloyd.
"Going into these last three races we are nervous and excited at the same time," said team owner Mike Johnson. "We have as much a chance at winning the team and driver's championships as we have at losing them. The team has been working exceptionally hard to prepare for the remaining races, and having the season finale at our home track of Road Atlanta might be an edge that we hope to take full advantage of."
"I'm really looking forward to the race because Laguna is one, if not the most, spoken about track in America -- so you can guess how happy a 20 year-old bloke like me is about driving here," said Devlin. "It will be good to see the team after a nice break. I've been working out in the gym and with a new diet I'm stronger and fitter than ever. I hope to bring another first place trophy home with me!"
"I'm happy to be joining Archangel for the race at Laguna -- and I'll be doing everything I can to help Ben and the team continue their run at the championship," said Lloyd. "I raced here back in '83 and '87 but it is a distant memory that I look forward to re-creating. I'm looking forward to coming back -- for the track, the fans and the great seafood in Monterey."
