BMW Team PTG will start Sunday's race from fifth, sixth and eighth on the GT grid. Nic Jonsson was quickest of the team, qualifying fifth in the #10 BMW M3, which he drives with Brian Cunningham, in one minute 28.555 seconds. Peter Cunningham qualified the new #6 M3 sixth in 1:28.761. He'll drive with Johannes van Overbeek. And Hans Stuck, co-driving with Boris Said, was eighth in the #7 M3 (1:28.979), after the team changed the car's engine between the morning practice and afternoon qualifying.
Peter Cunningham, driver, #6 BMW M3
"The No. 6 BMW M3 ran well today, but I think the track is a little bit off. It was a little hot and a little slicker today. Times were off for a lot of cars. We maybe didn't move up as much as we would have liked, but qualifying is not the big thing anyway. BMW Team PTG will be ready for the race in the morning."
Hans Stuck, driver, #7 BMW M3
"We had to change the motor after the morning practice session. I found the track a bit slower than yesterday -- or maybe I'm slower! The car handled nicely, so I think we have a good race setup. One of our advantages is we have had a new spec Yokohama tire for a couple of races. With this tire, we can maintain our speed throughout the complete stint. For this race, the fastest driver isn't going to win, the smartest will win."
Nic Jonsson, driver, #10 BMW M3
"The track is real slick. We did a few adjustments to the car and we think we know what we have to do for tomorrow's race. So I think we're in good shape."
Richard Brekus, motorsport manager, BMW of North America, Inc.
"The team showed a strong effort again in qualifying, making improvements from yesterday to today. Unfortunately, we had an engine problem in the No. 7 M3, but the team was very quick to change the engine to get ready for this afternoon's qualifying. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite as fast as yesterday. We're fifth, sixth and eighth, which shows that Porsche has more power than we do. That's something we have to address for next year."
BMW victory
Alfred duPont of Kennett Square, Pa., scored his first Speedvision World Challenge Touring Car victory Saturday. He led flag-to-flag from the pole position in his BMW 328is.
