MINASSIAN AIMING FOR VICTORY FROM FRONT ROW START
It was an achingly close, finger nails bitten to the quick, heart-in-the-mouth qualifying session for the Creation team, and it ended up with the Creation CA06/H-Judd just one tenth of a second away from pole position. Nicolas Minassian gave it absolutely everything he could -- lap after lap - but a fuel pressure problem and an errant competitor meant his best time of 1:13.838 was just not quite enough to match that of Stefan Johansson's Zytek.
After waiting a short time after the green flag for a gap in the traffic, there was time for the "Blue Rocket" to complete ten laps in qualifying today and it was on the Frenchman's sixth lap that he set his best time. Despite two more flying laps, his efforts were thwarted and it was an agitated Minassian who got out of the car at the end of the 20-minute session.
"I'm very, very angry as the standard of some of the driving in qualifying has to be addressed. There was a Porsche, I don't know who was driving, who blocked my two best laps. It's good to be second but it's better to be first. The car was great, perfect actually and it is a very good race car so let's go win tomorrow instead!"
Team Principal Ian Bickerton explained that a fuel pressure problem also didn't help Nic in his qualifying attack. "P2 is a good effort from Nic. We had a bit of a fuel pressure problem which held him up over the last three laps, but he also had a major incident with one of the Penske Porsches which went off the track, dragged a load of gravel back on with it and then wouldn't let him past. I think it could be a bit of a war with Penske tomorrow and I'll try and keep Nic's hands from around whoever's throat it was at the wheel."
