J3 Racing Finishes Ninth at Laguna Seca
Monterey, California - J3 Racing drivers Justin Jackson and Tim Sugden ran a competitive race to bring their number 79/J3 Motorsport/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR home in ninth place in the final round of the American Le Mans Series run at Laguna Seca today.
The Georgia based team qualified in tenth place for the historic four hour event. The race, for the first time in the tracks history, ended in darkness at 8:00 p.m.
In qualifying, Tim Sugden, drove the J3 Porsche to a tenth place starting position posting a time of 1:27.127 and speed of 93 mph.
"I had a good trouble free race today. We had some bad luck losing laps under the caution due to where the leader was in relation to the pace car," said Justin Jackson. "I think at one point the lead Audi passed me under yellow, but I can't be certain. Tim had some bad luck with a puncture causing an extra pit stop and more time on pit lane. Racing here in the darkness is a challenge. The track gets a lot of dust on it and you need to aware of the slippery condition."
Tim Sugden, of Leeds, England had a very good first stint in the car. "I was able to get into fourth place early on in the race. We qualified poorly so running up where we belonged early was gratifying. I was able to pass people and run times consistent with the lead cars. My second stint had a little more drama. I went to pass one of my fellow Porsche drivers and he decided to go into the pits and nearly took me with him, he hit me in the right front wheel hard enough to cause a puncture, resulting in an unscheduled pit stop. We then got unlucky behind the lead Audi and lost a lap. Ninth is disappointing today, we deserved better."
The race will be televised on a taped delayed basis on NBC, tomorrow, Sunday, October 17th starting at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
J3 Racing will also be running their World Challenge entry tomorrow with Michael Culver starting his Porsche 911 on the front row for the 50-minute race.
