Professional Sports Car Racing, Ltd., which sanctions the American Le Mans Series, issued warnings and one penalty during the race las weeknd at Laguna Seca. A stop-and-go to Panoz' Jan Magnussen was issued during the event.

On Oct. 18, PSCR issued a memo to competitors stating that the race was under review and that further penalties could be forthcoming.

Today, additional penalties were announced reflecting the sanctioning body's determination to curb this recent trend of rough driving.

Four drivers were sanctioned per Article 5.10.3 of the 2000 Sports Car Code, each being reprimanded, placed on probation for two race and assessed fines of varying amounts.

The heaviest sanction went to Rinaldo Capello, who shared the race- winning No. 77 Audi R8 with Allan McNish. He was fined $6,000 for contact with the No. 43 BMW prototype, the No. 3 GTS Corvette and the No. 92 GTS Viper. Jean-Marc Gounon, who co-drove the No. 43 BMW V12 LMR with Bill Auberlen, was tapped for $5,000 for contact with the No. 77 Audi. JJ Lehto, who co-drove the No. 42 BMW V12 LMR with Jorg Muller, was relieved of $3,000 for contact with the No. 21 GT Porsche 911 GT3R. Finally, David Donohue, co-driver of the No. 92 GTS Viper with Tommy Archer, was fined $1,000 for contact with the No. 4 GTS Corvette.

Robinson stated in today's memorandum that, "it is our intention to enforce our sporting regulations and impose any necessary penalties in a timely manner, during the event. However, in those instances where further analysis is required, we will impose alternate remedies as defined in the SPORTS CAR CODE even though implementation may not be possible until after the event."
