Houston, TX, Thursday, July 16, 2009. Risi Competizione, winners for the second consecutive year of the highly competitive GT2 category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is looking to continue its winning ways on its return to the American Le Mans Series at this weekend's forthcoming fifth round at Lime Rock Park in North West Connecticut.
Risi's Brazilian star, Jaime Melo, together with his regular ALMS team mate, Pierre Kaffer, drove a superbly judged race in France -- helped along by an equally faultless performance from a familiar face to the ALMS, endurance team mate Mika Salo. Their Ferrari F430 GT car spent the least amount of time in the pits of any of the 55 entrants, with the sister car of Krohn Racing's Tracy Krohn, Nic Jonsson and Eric van de Poele spending only a minimal amount of time more -- a great tribute to the preparation and pit work of the Risi Competizione team as well as the on-track skills of all six drivers.
The same 'no risk' approach is being adopted by the #62 car's driving talent for the 1.51 mile course as it was for the 8.5 mile Le Mans circuit. It is, once again, a new track for Pierre Kaffer to learn but he doesn't envisage any problems.
"Finally it is time to go back to America!" says an enthusiastic Kaffer. "I am really looking forward to get behind the steering wheel of my Ferrari F430 after Le Mans. I have never been to Lime Rock before but I have heard that the track is very small and I am really excited about what to expect there. After our success in Le Mans I am looking forward to seeing the Risi crew again and I am sure we will perform brilliantly again."
"It's very different to Le Mans, for sure", says Melo. "It's a very short track and once again like at Utah we will have the Challenge cars in the race. We will probably start with the same car set up as last year but maybe need to make some changes...we won't know really until we get there and see what temperatures are like and the track conditions. It's always hard racing there because of the traffic -- we had a puncture last year which lost us a lap -- so our main aim is to stay out of trouble. If we can do that, we will finish in a good position which will be good for our Championship fight."
The American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., is scheduled for 2:05 pm EDT on Saturday, July 18. The race will air live on SPEED and can be followed on American Le Mans Radio presented by Porsche and Live Timing & Scoring on www.americanlemans.com. Live streaming qualifying presented by Michelin also returns this weekend on www.SPEEDtv.com. The feature returns on Friday, July 17 at 3:30PM ET as ALMS teams qualify for Saturday's race.
