Muscle Milk Team CytoSport pumped up for Lime Rock battle
Greg on track at Utah Benicia, CA (July 20, 2010) - There's a battle raging in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron LMP class and Muscle Milk Team CytoSport is in the thick of it.
With four races in the next seven weeks, starting with the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park July 23 and 24, the battle promises to be an intense one as the Muscle Milk squad tries to close the gap on Highcroft Racing, who took an 11 point lead following the Utah Grand Prix.
The competition in the LMP class is remarkably close and the looming race at Lime Rock Park will be a challenge with all the top cars running similar lap times.
While the 1.51-mile, 10-turn road course at Lime Rock Park - the shortest track on the schedule - may be slightly advantageous to the former 'LMP2' cars, such as the team's Porsche RS Spyder, getting through the traffic cleanly and quickly will be key for Muscle Milk Team CytoSport if they want to stay in the championship hunt.
In addition to chasing a maximum points finish in its Lime Rock debut, the team will also be looking for a ninth consecutive podium and fifth in 2010.
Close-up Greg in car So far this season Team CytoSport has scored one win, one second place and two thirds.
Thanks to an outstanding drive, Klaus Graf came back from as low as ninth to finish third at Salt Lake City.
Round five of the 2010 ALMS schedule will mark a return to Lime Rock Park for Greg Pickett.
The team owner/driver last raced at the Lakeville, CT track over 20 years ago in the SCCA Trans Am Series.
Pickett's best finish at Lime Rock Park was a Trans Am Series win with his Pickett Racing team in 1981.
What they have to say:
Greg Pickett, Owner / Driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder
"It will be nice to go back to Lime Rock, it has been quite a while since I've been there. I think once again it is going to be a very competitive race.
"We saw in Utah how close all the LMP cars are and how tough of a battle it is going to be for Muscle Milk Team CytoSport from here to the end of the season.
"Lime Rock, because it is so short, will be a completely different challenge for us compared to our last race. Getting through the traffic efficiently will be very important.
"That said, I'm confident in our Porsche RS Spyder and our Michelin tires and I'm looking forward to another great race weekend."
Klaus Graf, Driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder
"Going from Salt Lake City to Lime Rock is really like night and day. Lime Rock is the shortest track we go to with lots of elevation changes.
"With the size of our race field at the moment with 30 plus cars, traffic is going to be brutal. That will for sure be the deciding factor. Fortunately, the Porsche RS Spyder handles usually extremely well in traffic and the race craft is one of our strengths.
"With short lap times, good pit stop work will also be a key factor and the Muscle Milk Team CytoSport crew has done stellar pit stops in the last couple of races.
"If the heat wave continues in the eastern part of the US, the weather could also play a big role in this race. Our team feels prepared as well as always and I look forward to this challenge as we look for another podium finish."
