(Bowmanville, Ont.) - Not even the rain that began falling in the opening laps of today's Grand Prix of Mosport could hold back the Michelin-shod Audi driven by Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello. McNish and Capello started the race from the pole on Michelin tires designed for dry conditions, but quickly changed to rain tires for the balance of the race. They overcame a spin, a stop-and-go penalty and a charging BMW to score their second consecutive ALMS victory by less than a car length.

"Rain was the story of the day," said Jerry Rinaldo, Michelin Racing Manager. "This was a tire race. The rain tires were a big part of everyone's strategy all day. This was great experience for our engineers because we don't get many occasions to race in the rain. A lot was learned today."

Today's win by McNish and Capello extended Michelin's win streak in ALMS competition to 12 dating back to the 1999 Mosport event. Earlier this season, Audi swept the first three positions at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and scored the win at the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Racing on Michelin dry-condition tires as the track dried in the final stages of the race, the BMW V12 LMR driven by JJ Lehto and Jorg Muller caught and nearly passed the Audi at the end, but had to settle for second. They were followed by teammates Bill Auberlen and Jean-Marc Gounon who were on Michelin intermediate rain tires.

Dodge Viper Wins GTS Category Again
With only minutes remaining in the two-hour and forty-five minute race, Karl Wendlinger drove his Michelin-shod Dodge Viper around the Goodyear-shod Corvette driven by Andy Pilgrim. "I had an advantage at the end with the Michelin tires," said Wendlinger, who had switched to intermediate rain tires after racing most of the day on full rain tires. Wendlinger and teammate Olivier Beretta have won five GTS category races in 2000 ALMS competition. Viper teammates Tommy Archer and David Donohue placed third in GTS competition

Alex Job Porsche Wins GT Category
Alex Job Racing scored its first, and Michelin's sixth, GT win of the season. Randy Pobst and Bruno Lambert started on the pole and never looked back in their Porsche GT3 R fitted with Michelin tires. They finished ahead of Boris Said and Hans Stuck in a Yokaomaa-shod BMW. "I told the guys on the radio at the last race in Sears Point that we were going to win in Mosport," said Pobst after the race. "We have been working very hard on the car and we have found the set up. I assure you...Michelin is a huge part of what we have come up with."

Michelin Wins Big
Earlier this year, Michelin-shod cars won the 24 Hours of Daytona (Dodge Viper), the 12 Hours of Sebring (Audi) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (Audi). In fact, Michelin has scored six of the last nine overall wins at Le Mans, including the three most recent. Michelin has also won the GTS category at Le Mans the past three years with Dodge Viper.
