Dalziel back in action at Mid-Ohio
Orlando, Florida (May 18, 2005) -- With a five-week layoff since the last round of the American Le Mans Series, Scotland's Ryan Dalziel is raring to get back behind the wheel of the Pacific Coast Motorsports #5 Menards-Yokohama Corvette C5-R and back into race action at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend, 20th-22nd May.
The 2.25-mile Lexington, Ohio circuit hosts the third round of the 2005 ALMS Championship with the second 2-hour 45-minute 'endurance sprint' of the year. Ryan, along with American team-mate Alex Figge, has piloted the rookie privateer GT1 team to two successive top-ten finishes, at Sebring and Road Atlanta, and hopes to make it a 'three-peat' at Mid-Ohio come Sunday afternoon.
Looking ahead to Sunday's action Dalziel enthused: "I can't wait to get back behind the wheel, five weeks is a long time to go without racing! Mid-Ohio's an excellent venue and a challenging driver track. I've raced there before, finishing second in Toyota Atlantic's in 2003. We've been busy since Road Atlanta and I hope the set-up changes we found while testing at Infineon Raceway last week will help bump us up the grid a bit. We're also pretty excited about some big gains made in our tire programme with Yokohama!"
Having survived a grueling debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March to take sixth in GT1 class and a tenth place finish, Dalziel then stepped up with a double-driving stint in last month's Road Atlanta event to take the checkered flag fifth in class and ninth overall -- the 23-year-old Scot having earlier topped the GT1 practice times ahead of the factory-entered Corvette C6-R's.
The gap between the second and third rounds on this year's ALMS calendar allowed Dalziel a quick trip back to his native Scotland as well as an opportunity to head south last weekend, crossing the border to Mexico. The double Toyota Atlantic Championship runner-up was on call at Monterrey's Fundidora Park to provide pace car hot-laps for VIP's and competition winners ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix of Monterrey, the second round of the 2005 Champ Car World Series. Dalziel made his North American race debut at the circuit back in 2002 claiming a second-place podium finish in his maiden Toyota Atlantic start.
Sunday's Mid-Ohio race is set to start at Noon EST with live coverage throughout the United States on the CBS television network from 1pm-3pm. MotorsTV will broadcast the entire race live across Europe.
