Klaus Graf Takes Pole For Mobil 1 Presents The Grand Prix of Mosport
Muscle Milk CytoSport driver Klaus Graf became the seventh driver in the past eight American Le Mans Series to win the pole position for the Mobil 1 presents The Grand Prix of Mosport, as he set the pace with a best lap time of 1:06.956, edging out last week's winner Chris Dyson. Graf will co-pilot the Porsche RS Spyder with Romain Dumas.
Defending LMP Champion David Brabham and new teammate for 2010, Simon Pagenaud, will start the Mobil 1 presents The Grand Prix of Mosport from third position. The Patron Highcroft Racing prototype entry has won the race at the 10-turn, 4 km circuit.
The first races of the weekend were held as the Star Mazda Championship, Cooper Prototype Lites and Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship all were in action.
In the U.S. based Star Mazda Championship, Conor Daly won the 34-lap race after starting from the pole. The win also clinched the season championship for the young American despite having one race remaining on the season schedule.
The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites held their first of two races this weekend. In the Lites One Class, Charlie Shears took the checkered flag with a total time of 31:14.861. Uxbridge, ON native Nick Majors, the lone Canadian in Lites One, finished in 12th place. Majors is making his series debut this weekend.
Saturday's racing also saw the Castrol Touring Car Championship run the first leg of their weekend doubleheader. After winning the pole in qualifying, Toronto's Dave Cleklewicz took the checkered flag in the Super Touring Class. Michel Sallenbach of Roxton Pond, QC held off Touring Class point's leader Anthony Rapone of Thornhill, ON for the win.
Sunday's schedule begins two races in the morning. The Playboy MX-5 Cup will hold their race followed by the second half of the Saturday/Sunday doubleheader for the Castrol Touring Cars. After lunch the final two races of the weekend will take place. The Cooper Prototype Lites will run its second race of the weekend and will be followed by The Mobil 1 presents The Grand Prix of Mosport, American Le Mans Series race.
