PIRELLI-SHOD ASTON MARTIN EARNS THIRD ALMS WIN AT GRAND PRIX OF MOSPORT
#009 Aston Goes Virtually Flag to Flag for Victory

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Sept.3, 2006 The Pirelli shod Aston Martin DBR9s led every dry practice session this weekend with Stephane Sarrazin (France) setting a qualifying record in the #009 Aston that he shared with Pedro Lamy (Portugal) for today's Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport. The pair was joined on the GT1 front row by teammates, Tomas Enge (Czech Republic) and Peter Kox (Holland) in the #007 Aston. This was Sarrazin's second-straight record pole but the results were much improved over Road America where he was punted off by an Audi prototype while leading his class in the race.

This time, as the green flag fell, the #3 factory Corvette tapped the #007 Aston spinning Kox but sending the Corvette to the penalty box. Lamy was able to drive away from the incident in the #009 Aston and build a huge 40-second lead (a GT1 lap runs roughly 75 seconds) over the #4 factory Corvette followed by the #007 and #3 cars one lap down. Amazingly, they stayed this way, lap after lap, until Sarrazin pitted with thirty minutes left for fuel and tires. The #4 Corvette's lead lasted a mere ten minutes before Sarrazin went on to take the team's third victory (out of eight rounds) for Aston Martin Racing in only its first full season in the American Le Mans Series. Enge brought the #007 Aston home in third place for a double podium.

The Astons have been competitive all season, earning additional wins at Lime Rock and Salt Lake City, with three seconds, 14 podiums, six poles and four fastest laps.

"I'm really proud of our efforts this weekend," commented Max Damiami, Pirelli's tire engineer assigned to Aston Martin Racing. "With the changing weather caused by tropical storm Ernesto, the fitters had to change tires almost every session and the new rear tire really delivered for Aston. The Astons consistently lapped better than the Michelin-shod Corvettes."

The ALMS heads home to Road Atlanta for the ninth round of the series racing in the ninth annual Petit Le Mans on Saturday, Sept.30, at 11:45 a.m. (EDT) with SPEED TV televising the race for ten hours or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first. American Le Mans Radio will have live coverage at americanlemans.com, which will also feature IMSA live timing and scoring.
