FORMER HURRICANE ERNESTO STORMS INTO MOSPORT
Pirelli-Shod Aston Martins Qualify 1-2 for Sixth ALMS Pole

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Sept.2, 2006 Sebring, Road Atlanta, even Lime Rock...but who would have thought that the Grand Prix of Mosport just east of Toronto would be affected by a hurricane? Well, now tropical storm Ernesto is visiting the Toronto area this Labor Day weekend causing the IMSA sanctioning body to cancel qualifying this afternoon and handing the front row of the GT1 grid to the Pirelli-shod Aston Martin Racing DBR9s.

Actually, knowing that Ernesto was "in coming," IMSA advised everyone that all the dry practice times prior to qualifying would be used to set the provisional grid if the actual qualifying session was canceled for safety reasons. So, Saturday morning's practice was critical and all the teams raced as if it were qualifying.

Earlier in the week, Aston Martin Racing had the opportunity to test several new Pirelli tires at Mosport and the new radials may have helped as Stephane Sarrazin set a track record of 1:13.056 in his #009 Aston Martin. This was Sarrazin's second-straight record pole as he was also the "fastest gun in the west" at Road America just two weeks ago. His teammate, Tomas Enge, was second at Mosport with a time of 1:13.574 in the #007 Aston for tomorrow's Grand Prix of Mosport, the eighth round of the American Le Mans Series.

This marks the sixth time this ALMS season thatthe Astons have qualified on the pole - two by Enge and Sarrazin and one each by Pedro Lamy and Darren Turner. Lamy also smashed the qualifying record at the 12 Hours of Sebring in the ALMS season opener.

The Astons have also had the fastest laps at three of the races: Enge at Sebring, Lamy at MidOhio, and Sarrazin at Salt Lake City where the Astons finished 1-2 in their second-straight ALMS victory last month.
