Onwards to Ontario
The Prodrive Ferrari team is now on the move to Mosport, near Toronto, Ontario for the second of the two Canadian legs of the American Le Mans Series. Round five will take place on Sunday, 17th August at 1.30pm local time, and is eagerly anticipated by all the Ferrari drivers in the GTS class as it is felt that the fast, 2.45 mile track will be much better suited to the 550 Maranello than the tighter and twisty circuits of the last two rounds. The team is hoping for some good luck after the disappointments of the last two races at Sonoma and Trois-Rivières.
It will be yet another new track for Tomas Enge and Peter Kox to learn, and once again they will benefit from the shared knowledge of David Brabham and Jan Magnussen who have competed at the track for the last four years.
The Care Racing supported team will, however, be taking advantage of the two-day test that has been made available to ALMS competitors, on Monday and Tuesday, 11th and 12th August. During this time, Enge and Kox will be able to take their time to get to know the contours of the track, and Magnussen will be able to start work with race engineers George Howard- Chappell and Dave Wilcock on how best to set up and balance the Ferrari at this particular venue. Brabham is unable to attend the test.
The Danish driver, who will be flying to the test directly from a whistle- stop tour of racing commitments around the world, comments: "I really like the track even though it's bumpy and has an abrasive surface which means that tyre choice is critical. There are some fast corners where you have to totally commit yourself, and that's a good challenge for a driver. Mosport has been good to me in the past (Magnussen was the winner of the inaugural American Le Mans Series race in 1999) and I'm sure we will go well there."
The Grand Prix of Mosport will be televised live by NBC Sports beginning at 2 p.m. (EDT). The American Le Mans Series Radio Web will have live coverage that can be heard online at www.americanlemans.com.
