Practice Patter...

Mosport International Raceway, which is this year celebrating its 50th Anniversary, is a driver's track; one that deserves a lot of respect and which can so easily catch out even the most experienced hand.

Risi Competizione's drivers all look forward to returning to Canada, and the track plays a large part in that due to its fast, sweeping corners and undulations. At a promoter's test day on Wednesday, 14 of the 24 teams which will be competing in the weekend's Grand Prix of Mosport took to the track to explore its limits and work towards the perfect set up for the race. Risi Competizione was amongst them.

The team's two Rosso red Ferrari F430 GTC cars were both running throughout the day, and the drivers had the following comments to make.

Pierre Kaffer: "I'm happy with the set up we've found and I think we've got something in the pocket too. We made a lot of changes in the afternoon and improved the car. I'm really enjoying working with Toni [Vilander]; we both had exactly the same comments and feedback on the car after we'd finished driving and did the same times.

"This track is really exciting to drive at. It's the sort of circuit where twice or three times a lap you have a moment which makes your heart go boom, boom, boom and beat a lot faster!"

Toni Vilander: "I really like so many of the ALMS race tracks with their ups and downs, and this one especially because it's very demanding on drivers. It doesn't leave you any space for error. I'm happy to be here testing and am feeling confident for the race; it's good to be back in the ALMS after our strong appearance in Mid Ohio. It's my first race with Pierre who is showing himself to be a very good driver and a true professional.

"Mosport is not that long a track but it's demanding and race wise it's always hard. Our test day was positive -- after some problems that the team had at Road America, we were mainly concentrating on race pace and race set up to make sure we're on the right road for this weekend's race. I'm hoping to repeat at least the 2nd place I got here in 2006."

Jaime Melo: "We tried many things throughout the day and the car feels good now. It's a good starting point for the weekend. We're still missing some front grip on high speed corners, especially the right-handers, so I think we need to work on that more for the race to improve the tire life. We didn't do any running on new tires which gave us a good idea of how the car will be in the race."

Gimmi Bruni: "We have found quite a good base, but need to improve on a few little things like always. We are in good shape; pretty fast and consistently fast so I am happy. I love this track because it is very smooth and fast, with a lot of high speed corners. You have to be very smooth with the steering wheel and throttle at the same time and it's the sort of place that, if you get a fast lap which flows well, it makes you feel really good."
