The new Riley & Scott MkIII Series C will be ready for testing in four weeks, according to designer Bill Riley. The new car will be run by Rob Dyson in the American Le Mans Series, though early testing performance will determine when the car is to be debuted.
The new car will feature a variation of the 6-litre engine that ran at Daytona, a unit that Dyson described as "a great 12-hour engine" though the American will review his options before next year's Daytona 24 hours. "We will have to look at it with our friends who have worked so hard on this engine," said Dyson after the unit failed on his leading car for the second consecutive year.
The suspension will be similar to that of the R&S that has demonstrated fantastic handling qualities on Goodyear tyres. "There is not a better handling car out there," said Dyson.
The team has not finally ruled out a return to Le Mans, either, with Dyson considering entering the French endurance classic with himself and the 1999 American Le Mans Series champion Elliott Forbes-Robinson. "I may go over with Elliott and run the car just to see what we need to do for next year. Clearly the car will be very good. We will just have to put it together really quick."
The team manager has already loaned his star drivers, Butch Leitzinger, Andy Wallace and James Weaver, to Bentley for this year, though it is only a one-year deal and the American has kept his options open for the next two years.
