JUPITER, FLA. (May 10, 2000) - Nygmatech Motorsports will bypass the next two events on the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) schedule in order to focus on testing and development of their Porsche GT3 R racer. Rounds three and four on the 11-race ALMS schedule are the two European Le Mans Series events at the Silverstone circuit in England, and the Nurburgring in Germany, May 13 and July 9, respectively.

Nygmatech is a new team in 2000, formed by Kurt Baumann of Great Falls, Va. Original plans called for the team to compete in the Daytona 24-hour race, then focus on the hotly contested GT division of the ALMS, with a pair of the new Porsches. The team took delivery of the cars just prior to the Daytona event with plans for testing before the ALMS season-opener at Sebring, however, damage sustained when one car was collected by a spinning Corvette at Daytona negated those plans. After competing in the first two ALMS events at Sebring and Charlotte, the team is opting to spend the next two months in a thorough testing and development program with one car in order to prepare for the rest of the ALMS season.

"We thought long and hard about going to Europe," explains team manager John Wood, "but we ultimately decided that our resources would be better utilized developing the car over the next few months. The GT field is ultra-competitive and we're not satisfied just to run for a solid finish. Our goals and aspirations are a lot higher. We've made some progress, but the reality is, the car is still a couple of seconds off the pace. We know the Porsche is capable, we've got new Michelin tires that are terrific, and we've got two promising young drivers. All the right ingredients are there to contest for podium finishes, we just need some time to put it all together."

Drivers Ian James, 26, of Surrey, England, and Joao Barbosa, 25, of Porto, Portugal, who drove for the team at Sebring and Charlotte, will participate in the test sessions. The Nygmatech Motorsports Porsche is prepared by Michael Colucci Racing (MCR) in Jupiter, Fla.

Nygmatech Motorsports will return to the ALMS series at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California, on July 23.
