WIth many of the race crews set to enjoy a warm Christmas day, the mechanics, engineers and team members will enjoy a Christmas Lunch at the Palais at Semaphore. Members from all race teams will be in attendance and a surprise "Santa Claus" also will be making a guest appearance.
Adelaide race fans will get the chance to meet the stars of the American Le Mans Series by attending a unique autograph session to be held in Rundle Mall on Thursday, December 28. All drivers from all teams will be in attendance under the Rundle Mall canopy at the corner of Gawler Place from 12.00noon to 1.00pm.
Tickets are selling fast for the American Le Mans Series end-of-season gala awards dinner to be held at Adelaide Oval on January 1. This black tie function will be the highlight of the 2000 season with the new title-holders in the prototype, GTS and GT classes collecting their championship trophies. Priced at $140 per head, tickets are available from the Adelaide Race of a Thousand Years office.
Lola prototype driver Didier de Radigues has been a busy boy in preparation for Adelaide's Race of a Thousand Years. He has just returned home from racing in the third annual Bakel - Saint Louis - Dakar Corona Extra jetraid. The race on jet skis took place in and off the coast of Senegal including 1.800 kms of river and sea in 15 days. The Olive Garden Rafanelli pilot was one of the few non-professional jet ski racers to take part, but he acquitted himself extremely well winning one open sea heat race and finishing in the top six in the balance of the offshore portions to take 18th overall out of the 24 F1 category jet skis.
- The after-race entertainment at Adelaide's Race of a Thousand Years will feature two separate concerts - The Pitside Party (INXS and Taxiride) and the New Year's Revolution (The Living End, You Am I and Spiderbait). The concerts will kick off at 10.30pm to welcome in the New Year. Race fans also be able to enjoy added on-track entertainment including stunt motorcyclists and a parade of classic Le Mans winning cars from Porsche. Stunt pilot Pip Bormann also will perform in the skys above the track.
