Braselton GA - The entry list is in and the field is set for the third annual Petit Le Mans Presented by Audi.
In the Prototype class, the two Audi R8's are entered: the #77 car of Rinaldo Capello and Allan McNish and the #78 car of Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro. Both cars have been dominating the American Le Mans Series this season, winning five races between them.
Reigning champion Panoz Motor Sports has entered their two Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S cars. The #1 Panoz will be piloted by David Brabham and Jan Magnussen. Driving duties for the #2 Panoz belong to Johnny O'Connell, Hiroki Katoh and Klaus Graf.
Team Cadillac and the French Motorola-DAMS team have each entered two Cadillac Northstar LMP's. The driver lineup for the two teams includes five of the six past Petit Le Mans winners. Wayne Taylor, Eric van de Poele and Emmanuel Collard won Petit Le Mans in 1998 in a Ferrari 333 SP. In the 1999 event, David Brabham, Andy Wallace and Eric Bernard won in a Panoz LMP-1.
BMW Motorsport is fielding its two BMW V12 LMR's. The #42 car is being driven again by J.J. Lehto and Jorg Muller and the #43 will be driven by Bill Auberlen and Jean-Marc Gounon. The two Reynard2KQ/10/Judds of Johanssen-Matthews Racing are entered, and Team Rafanelli has entered their Lola B2K/10/Rafanelli V10.
In the GTS class, Viper Team ORECA has entered all three of its Dodge Viper GTS-R's. They come to Petit Le Mans hoping to repeat their GTS podium sweep of the 1999 race.
Corvette Racing has already shown that they can beat the Vipers and they plan to prove themselves again at Petit Le Mans. The team will be challenging the Vipers with their two-car effort.
Also joining the GTS class is Chamberlain Motorsport, who is bringing their Dodge Viper GTS-R to the United States for their first ALMS appearance this season.
In GT, Dick Barbour Racing has entered three Porsche 911 GT3 R machines. The #81 G&W Porsche will be the first all-female team in the American Le Mans Series. Women's Global GT Series veterans Cindi Lux, Divina Galica and Sarah Wahl are teaming up to make ALMS history. Team PTG has its new two BMW M3's ready to do battle against the Porsches.
The Petit Le Mans is the ninth race on the American Le Mans Series calendar. Lasting 10 hours or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first, the race has become one of the world's most prestigious endurance races. The Petit Le Mans gets the green flag at 12:30 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2000.
