Mowlem, ACEMCO Team Ready For Portland ALMS Race

PORTLAND, Ore. (July 22, 2004) -- The next stop for British sportscar driver Johnny Mowlem and his ACEMCO Motorsports teammates is Portland International Raceway, site of the July 25 Portland Grand Prix American Le Mans Series race.

The Portland venue offers a variety of challenges, including the possibility of wet weather and a track surface that lacks grip.

"It is an interesting challenge for a racing driver," Mowlem said. "Every track we go to has something that makes it different from all the others. That is why the experience we have on our ACEMCO team is so important. "

Mowlem and Borcheller, driving their Saleen S7R, have finished among the top three in the GTS class in three of the four ALMS events this season.

"I think we have proven how competitive our package is," Mowlem said. "With a little more luck we could have added second place to our tally at Sears Point. Hopefully Portland will prove luckier!"

Mowlem will race in the ALMS rounds at Portland and Mosport International Raceway in Canada before driving a Porsche GTRSR in the 1,000 kilometer Le Mans Endurance Series race at Silverstone on Aug. 14. He'll drive for the same team that provided the car in which he swept the entire 17-race season in British Pirelli Porsche Cup competition in 1997. That stunning performance led to Mowlem winning the Gregor Grant Award for outstanding achievement in motorsport at the International Autosport Awards.

One of Britain's most successful and personable sportscar drivers, Mowlem started his career behind the wheel at age 19. In 2003, he finished fourth in the British Racing Drivers Club Gold Star Award, a ranking of all British racers competing in international series, including Formula One. A married father of two, Mowlem was raised in Majorca, Spain. He has earned university degrees in economics and Spanish. More information on Mowlem is available at www.johnnymowlem.com.
