JOEL FEINBERG NAMED AMERICAN LE MANS 2009 FOUNDERS CUP CHAMPION
October 12th 2009 Fort Lauderdale, Florida- In their second season campaigning the only Dodge Viper in American Le Mans, Primetime Race Group owner and driver Joel Feinberg was awarded the Founders Cup trophy and recognized as the series top privateer driver for the year.
This competition recognizes the accomplishments of American Le Mans Series drivers who "are a foundation of the series, and whose participation embodies the 'Learn by Doing' spirit of the Founder," with the cup named in honour of ALMS founder Don Panoz. Throughout the season points are given at each race to the top privateer drivers in the series for their individual results as an independent and privately funded team competing in manufacturer based series.
Joel Feinberg and his Primetime team have spent the past two years in the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series campaigning and developing their Dodge Viper to compete directly against names like Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, and Corvette. Taking on this role as a an independent team has not been an easy one but none the less, the team has used its limited resources coupled with tremendous team spirit and have fought the fight without any factory support or assistance.
"Being a privateer team in this series is definitely a struggle and I'm honored to have been given this title", said Feinberg. "When I started racing four years ago, I had a vision of starting at the bottom and working my way up but I never anticipated this big of a climb. Fortunately we used our money wisely, made the right choices, and were able to cut our teeth in a relatively inexpensive car. Now that we're through our growth phase we are looking to raise our game in 2010 and are planning a transition into the Le Mans prototype class", added Feinberg.
Aside from winning the Founders Cup, Feinberg also dominated the IMSA Lites Series with 10 podium finishes including 5 wins and the season championship. Feinberg intends to focus his own driving duties solely on the teams ALMS program in 2010 but will continue providing full race support for 2-4 "up and coming" IMSA Lites drivers looking to use the team's success as a ladder system into the American Le Mans.
