Top eight GT qualifiers smash track record at ALMS Road America qualifying; Mckenna mail2web Porsche takes pole with Lucas Luhr at the hyelm.

ELKHART LAKE, WI -- August 23 -- On one of the few days this season was not hot and humid, Lucas Luhr pushed his Alex Job Racing McKenna mail2web Porsche 911 GT3 RS onto the American Le Mans Series GT class pole by shattering the qualifying record by more th an three seconds for Sunday's Road America 500.

Luhr, who will co-drive with Sascha Maassen in the GT class-leading Alex Job Porsche, said that the expanse of the 4-mile, 14-turn Road America course does not prevent traffic problems.

"I had to drop back a little to get some clear running room, but was able to get my fast lap in on the third fast lap. But the other two Porsche factory drivers -- Jorg Bergmeister and Marc Lieb -- are right on my tail, and they will not back down during th e race. I had the pole here last year, but we lost the lead with two laps to go -- Sascha and I will not let that happen this year," said Luhr.

The weather, which featured sunny skies and low humidity with temperatures in the high 70's F, enabled a combination of ideal tire grip, engine efficiency, and driver comfort to help the top eight GT qualifiers to beat last year's qualifying record.

Second was the other Alex Job Racing Porsche of Jorg Bergmeister/Timo Bernhard, three-tenths of a second back, with the Orbit Racing YES Network Porsche of Marc Lieb/Peter Baron third, less that three-tenths of a second behind second position. After the K elleners/Lazzaro Ferrari (fourth), the other Porsche teams which beat last year's record include the Johnny Mowlem/Craig Stanton White Lightning Petersen Motorsports Porsche (fifth); the PK Sport Porsche of Robin Liddell/Alex Davison (six); the Zip Racing Porsche of Andy Lally/Spencer Pumpelly (seventh); and the J3 Racing Porsche of Justin Jackson/David Murry (eighth).

The Racer's Group Porsche of Kevin Buckler/Cort Wagner qualified ninth after reporting set-up difficulties, and the Borcheller/Lewis Ferrari rounded out the top ten.

The Road America 500 will be broadcast live on The Speed Channel starting at 2:00 PM Eastern Daylight time on Sunday, August 24.
