It all comes down to this race for Jason Workman.

Atlanta, GA: After a season of racing, after hundreds of laps of competition, the final race of the 2003 American LeMans Series, the 10 hour, flagship "Petit LeMans", will determine the LMP675 division champion. Jason Workman has an outside chance to seize the prize.

Workman, co-driver of the Essex Racing Lola-Nissan, stands in 4th place in the driver's championship. Co-driving with Scott Bradley and Andrew Davis, Workman must win the LMP675 division at Petit LeMans while series leader, Chris Dyson must fail to finish and score zero points in order for Workman to move into 1st place. It's an outside chance at best, but Workman, his team-mates and the entire Essex racing crew will be doing everything they can to accomplish the ultimate prize.

"We have looked forward to this race for a long time," commented Workman. "We have looked to the Petit LeMans as our best chance to finish well. The Petit LeMans will require reliability, speed and endurance and we have done all we can to produce the result we need in this final race."

Workman's challenge is the endurance vs. outright speed duel that is the classic confrontation of endurance racing. Workman's Essex Racing Nissan produces significantly less horsepower than their competitors' more exotic racing powerplants. But the Nissan V6 engine has proved to be exceptionally reliable. While more exotic powerplants have sometimes failed to finish, the Workman entry has persevered and scored points in all but one event of the 2003 season, the only entry to do so. Workman has five podium finishes, three 2nd in class results, including two in the last three races, that have produced the points needed to continually close the gap between himself and his competitors in the season long battle. Now Workman finds himself in a position to win the series championship if he can co-drive the Lola Nissan to its first class win in the final race of the season.

"Petit LeMans is the race that is our best chance to produce a win," added Workman. "The reliability factor, our home track advantage and our team's long history of success give us our best opportunity to pull off a victory. It would truly be icing on the cake to win the championship because this has been the best season of my career regardless of the outcome. I am thankful to have had the chance to compete with such a great team, great engineering from Tony Dowe and super co-drivers who have all contributed to the success we have had this season.

Workman is no stranger to series championships. He already wears the crown of 1999 Scandinavian Formula Ford 2000 Champion. Racing in Europe is rarely successful for American drivers but Workman dominated the 1999 series in his rookie season. Now, another championship is within his grasp, albeit a bit of a distant one. No one particularly thought he would win in Europe in '99, but this time, with the ALMS LMP675 crown on the line, no one can completely discount his chances either.
