Sears Point BMW Team PTG 2-3-6 qualifying

BMW Team PTG will start second, third and sixth on the GT grid for Sunday's race. Boris Said, driving with Hans Stuck, qualified the new #7 BMW M3 second in class in one minute 35.744 seconds, just 37-thousandths of a second off the record pole position. Brian Cunningham, paired with Nic Jonsson, qualified third in the #10 BMW M3 in 1:35.780. Peter Cunningham, who will co-drive with Johannes van Overbeek, was sixth in the #6 M3 in 1:36.495.

"We've done a lot of development on this M3 and it's handling great. The Porsche guys have been kicking our butts on the straightaways, but we've been kicking their butts in the corners. Porsche can flex their muscles on the straightaways, but anyone can drive down a straightaway. The corners are where the men are made."

Brian Cunningham, driver, #10 BMW M3

"I think I must have left a little out there by going first and getting caught up in people who were trying to warm their tires up. I know there are at least eight-hundredths [of a second] in me, so I'm sure it's not the car. But eight-hundredths between the top three is probably the best qualifying we've had in a couple of years in GT."

Peter Cunningham, driver, #6 BMW M3

"Ina Gastesi, Scott Clarke and all the boys on the number six car had their work cut out for them, but we've really made some good progress and now we have the best car that's we've had all weekend. We're not that far off, so we're looking forward to the race."

double duty

Peter Cunningham will compete in two races on Sunday. After the American Le Mans Series race, he will race a BMW M3 in the Speedvision World Challenge GT Series, where he qualified on pole. "It's exciting to be racing two different cars," he said. "I'll probably start the [BMW Team PTG] six car and have a little bit of time off before it's time to hop into the World Challenge RealTime M3. It should be a great Sunday."

wedding bells

Nic Jonsson will be married Aug. 5 in Sweden. His fiancee, Helene Axelsson, is no stranger to racing. She represents racing safety gear manufacturer Stand 21. Nic's brother Mathias, crew chief for Penske Racing driver Gil de Ferran, will be Nic's best man.
