March 21, 2009 -- 7:30 pm ET -- Nine hours into the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche is in fourth and the No. 44 is in fifth. Both cars just came off of a scheduled pit stop and are now good for a full stint. Patrick Long is in the No. 45 and Darren Law in the No. 44 -- both on their third stints. Patrick Long is on the same lap as the next closest GT2 car, the No. 21 Panoz.
Both Lizard cars have patiently worked their way from the back of the field after a rough start to the 12-hour race. Joerg Bergmeister started second on the grid in the No. 45, and Seth Neiman started 13th. It was a clean race start for the entire field, but soon turned ugly for the Lizards when on the fourth lap the No. 45 was hit by the No. 40 Robertson Racing Ford, causing rear suspension damage to the No. 45. The Lizard crew made the repair in the pits but the lengthy stop dropped the No. 45 from third to 13th. The No. 44 also had some issues early in the race with a spin which sent it back to the pits for an unscheduled pit stop and fresh tires.
After the two incidents, both of which occurred in the first 5 minutes of the 12-hour race, the Lizards have stayed out of trouble.
The Lizard drivers are now into their third stints -- Patrick Long just took over from Joerg Bergmeister, and will hand the wheel over to Marc Lieb after this stint. Darren Law just took over for Seth Neiman. Johannes van Overbeek will take over from Darren after his stint is complete.
The GT2 leader is still the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari who has held the lead for most of the race, after starting from the rear of the grid.
Marc Lieb in the No. 45 has the fastest GT2 time of the race so far, with a 2:02.494.
