All Systems Go As Liz Halliday Heads For Sebring
International Racing Driver and Equestrian Liz Halliday begins her action-packed 2007 sporting season next week as she flies to Florida to compete in the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring.
Last year Halliday became the most successful woman ever in the event's 54-year history by finishing 2nd overall and winning the LMP2 class with Intersport Racing.
This year she becomes the first woman to compete in the famous Aston Martin DBR9. The season sees the Californian-born British-based driver switch to the predominantly European-based Le Mans Series with Team Modena. The squad are also entering the American Le Mans Series opener for the first time and Liz is thrilled to be competing at Sebring again -- an event she so thoroughly enjoys.
"It's very exciting to go back to Sebring," Liz said. "Although I'll be driving in the Le Mans Series this season, I love the ALMS and it will be great to go back and see everybody. The track is challenging because it is so bumpy and very technical, but the race has such history and it's the one everybody wants to win."
The event will mark Liz's first race for Team Modena and also sees her switch from LMP2 to GT1 machinery following her success in 2006. But far from shying away from those challenges, Halliday is prepared to meet them head on in her trademark feisty manner.
"It's the first time I have driven a GT1 car at Sebring; it is Team Modena's first trip there and it will be the first time I have ever driven the Aston Martin DBR9. That will represent a challenge, but it is one I am looking forward to, especially when you add into the mix the battle between us and the works Corvettes. It will be the first time the team has raced at Sebring, but the team is so well-prepared and very professional--they're up to the challenge. It is going to be really exciting."
Halliday will be partnered by regular 2007 co-driver Antonio Garcia and former McLaren tester and Aston Martin works driver Darren Turner at the event, and she couldn't be happier with her team-mates.
"I couldn't ask for more than to have these two top professional drivers alongside me. It's also a positive that Darren has won at Sebring in the Aston Martin before, and I think that experience will really serve the team well."
