Service Organizations Benefit from Racing at Sebring
Sebring, FL -- Sebring area service organizations and charities annually receive over $30,000 in contributions from the running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Sebring International Raceway hosts America's premier sports car endurance race on Saturday, March 19th, kicking-off the 2005 American Le Mans Series.
"Since the infancy of racing at Sebring, local organizations have played a key role," stated Sebring President and GM Tres Stephenson. "Originally, the Sebring Fireman helped produce the event. Today, over a dozen local organizations benefit from the race through various levels of participation.
"We actively support the efforts of these organizations and it is our goal to continue building these relationships. The raceway is a major economic force in the community and we therefore believe area charities should benefit as well."
Recently, the Rotary Club of Sebring established a goal of raising enough money to purchase ten shelter boxes to aid the Tsunami relief efforts. Strong support from the community enabled the Rotary Club to double its goal, which was met when Sebring International Raceway stepped in with a $2,000 contribution.
Other organizations involved with the Sebring races are: Avon Park Band Parents Association, Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Highlands County, Tourist Development Council, Lake Placid Jaycees, Sebring Kiwanis Club, Sebring Breakfast Lions Club, National Guard, Sebring Rotary Club, Highlands Sertoma Club, Sebring Takedown Club, SIRAC (Sebring International Raceway Advisory Council), YMCA of Highlands County and the Sebring Sports Car Racing Hall of Fame Museum.
Gallery of Legends Pays Tribute to Jaguar's 1955 Sebring Win
British car manufacturers have a storied history at Sebring International Raceway. Jaguar, MG, Aston Martin, Triumph, Austin-Healey and Bentley are among those that have challenged the famous Sebring circuit over the past five decades.
Perhaps the famous of these manufacturers is Jaguar, which won the Sebring 12-hour classic fifty years ago -- the first and only victory by Jaguar at America's premier sports car race. To celebrate the anniversary, several historic Jaguars will be on display at Sebring's Gallery of Legends in the paddock during the 53rd Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Gates open on Wednesday, March 16, and remain open 24 hours a day through Saturday.
A former Briggs Cunningham D-type Jaguar and the Group 44 Jaguar XJR-7 prototype are among several historic Jaguars on display throughout the Sebring event.
The legacy of great British manufacturers continues this year at Sebring as Aston Martin returns to racing, making its competition debut of the new DB9. They are just one of several new cars debuting at Sebring in what promises to be one of the most competitive races in many years.

Tickets Sales at Record Pace
Gates open at 7 am Wednesday for the 53rd running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, America's premier sports car endurance race.
"With a world class field highlighted by an incredible entry in the GT1 category, its not surprising tickets sales are nearly 10% ahead of last year's record attendance," stated Sebring President and GM Tres Stephenson.
Hundreds of fans are already lined-up at the front gates for the opening of the track at 7 am Wednesday. The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring starts at 10:45 am on Saturday, March 19, culminating four days of racing action on the legendary 3.7-mile Sebring circuit, originally a WWII B-17 training base.
"There are so many big stories this year," added Stephenson. "The debut of Aston Martin and Maserati, Frank Biela trying to become the first four-time winner, the rivalry between Audi and the Dyson Lolas ... it is going to be a great show."
As America's most fan-friendly motorsports facility, Sebring offers unique attractions, varied entertainment, and opportunities to get up close and personal with the cars and stars of the ALMS. Sebring International Raceway is located only 80 miles from Disney World and less than 100 miles from the Tampa/St Petersburg area.
Sebring's historic 3.7-mile road course has 17 different turns and the famous Ulmann Straight, where the exotic ALMS Le Mans prototypes reach speeds near 200 mph.
Plenty of different tickets are still available and can be purchased at the gate. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult, so it's an economical way for families to enjoy a world-class event at affordable prices. In addition, college students with a valid college ID can purchase tickets at big discounts.
