Robertson Racing earn top ten finish at Sebring
20/03/2010 - The Robertson Racing Ford GT made a solid start to the 2010 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron in Florida today after recording a top ten finish at the 58th annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida.
Driver trio David and Andrea Robertson and David Murry survived an incident packed race to bring the Roush V8-powered machine home in the GT class points with tenth place. It was just reward for the whole team who have worked tirelessly throughout the week to repair the car after severe damage was sustained during Monday's test session.
The opening two thirds of the race passed largely without incident before a track rod end cost the squad around 20 minutes in the pits. Undeterred, the crew worked quickly to replace the damaged part ensuing that the Ford could return to the fray.
As the clock on the main straight ticked towards 10.30pm local time, it was left to David Murry to bring the car across the line to take the double points on offer for finishing American motorsport's toughest test of endurance.
David Robertson, Team Owner and driver: "I'm just so proud of the whole team after the way they repaired the car. They not only got us into the race but also made the car reliable, which is an achievement in itself given how demanding Sebring is. I've also learnt where we stand this season which will help shape the way we move forward. We've got the handling pretty much where we want it but we need to work on horsepower.
"We improved the car over the winter but there's still some more work needed. The manufacturer teams are able to do a little bit more but we've got a lot of developments to come which will help us improve as the season progresses."
Andrew "H" Smith, Robertson Racing Team Manager: "I'm absolutely delighted with the performance today. We had a few issues throughout the race, just little bits and pieces like breaking the track rod end during David Murry's fourth stint. All in all though it was a good race. When I looked at the car on Monday afternoon I didn't think there was a possibility of making the start so to finish the race, without major mechanical issues, is just brilliant."
Robertson Racing returns to action at Long Beach in a month's time for the second American Le Mans Series round of the new season.
