After 612 hours and 2.1 Million Miles, Sebring's Legendary Race Going Strong.

Sebring, FL -- America's oldest and most prestigious sports car endurance race, the 52nd Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, takes the green flag at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 20.

In five decades of racing, competitors have covered 2,123,869 miles in 612 hours of racing around the historic raceway, which began life as a WWII military base known as Hendricks Field.

Over 2,600 drivers have competed at Sebring, including legendary names such as Mario Andretti, Stirling Moss, Juan Manuel Fangio, Phil Hill, Dan Gurney, A.J. Foyt and Bobby Rahal, all of whom won the classic race. The mystique of Sebring has attracted many others to challenge the central Florida circuit, including, actor Steve McQueen, who nearly won in 1970, journalist Walter Cronkite, astronaut Pete Conrad, and comedian Dick Smothers.

Often called the "Woodstock of Auto Racing," Sebring is a harbinger of spring for road racing fans, who travel from all over the world to witness the famous once-around-the-clock classic.

"Sebring becomes the biggest city in central Florida during race week," stated Raceway President Tres Stephenson. "With drivers and teams from 20 different countries, it is truly an international event. Sebring has the most loyal fans in road racing, and we are not surprised ticket sales are at a record pace this year."

Sebring is second only to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in terms of international prestige for sports car racing. The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring kicks-off the American Le Mans Series nine-race season.

Manufacturers have long considered Sebring the ultimate proving grounds, as the 3.7 mile, 17-turn circuit includes asphalt and concrete surfaces, the famous Ulmann Straight and Hairpin turn, day and night driving and the most competitive entry of the ALMS season. Porsche leads manufacturers with 17 overall wins, followed by Ferrari with 12. Audi will be going for its fifth consecutive Sebring win this year, placing it third on the all-time list.

Tickets to the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring are available by calling 800-626-7223. For more information visit www.sebringraceway.com.
