Veloqx Prodrive Ferraris pushing hard .

The Veloqx Prodrive Racing team is currently running in 3rd and 4th places in the GTS class, and racing hard to catch the leading Corvettes, although valuable time was lost in the pits due to a number of previously unexperienced problems with both cars within the first three hours of the race.

Briton Darren Turner made a superb start in the Prodrive Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello and led the GTS class within the first hour of the race.

Darren Turner: "The first 15 laps the Corvette was really strong under braking but then on the last 12 laps of the stint he started to have problems and I managed to get past him. I only hung on to it for a few minutes before he got me back again, while I was avoiding a GT car, but fortunately I managed to pass him again. I think that's a pretty good start for us."

After the first round of pit stops Tomas Enge handed over the wheel of car 88 to Peter Kox. The Dutchman managed to recapture the GTS lead from the Corvettes but his hopes of increasing that lead were dashed when damage was found to have occurred to part of the engine air intake system. Repairs took 10 minutes but a pit crew infringement meant that a 2 minute penalty had to be taken, the sum of which caused the car to lose 6 laps to the new leaders.

Shortly after this, #80, with Anthony Davidson at the wheel, reported a long brake pedal. He pitted and the team replaced the right front disc and bled the braking system but this lost the team considerable time and four laps on the track. The process had to be repeated, losing the crew of Burt/Davidson and Turner still further time in the pits.

Since then both cars have been battling hard through the traffic to try and make up time and laps and good progress has been made - particularly #88 car which has clawed back a lap - and both cars are now running without problems.
