Infogrames and American Le Mans partners in video games.
BRASELTON, Ga. (October 11, 2002) -- Infogrames Entertainment, one of the world's leading publishers and distributors of video games, has joined with the American Le Mans Series in an exclusive, worldwide and multi-year agreement for use in sports car racing video games featuring the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, already under license from the Automobile Club de l'Ouest.
The American Le Mans Series license will complement the existing Infogrames video game that is based on the 24 Hours of Le Mans and will capture the nuances of endurance sports car racing with cutting-edge technology. Infogrames will have exclusive access to the official assets and date of the ALMS including cars, teams, drivers and racing circuits from the racing series.
"This is another major step in the growth of the American Le Mans Series," said Scott Atherton, President and COO of the Panoz Motor Sports Group, which includes the ALMS. "To have the series recognized by such a major player in the video game industry as Infogrames is a tremendous endorsement, and we are pleased that our series will be taken to the public in this new and exciting way."
"We are thrilled to sign an agreement with the American Le Mans Series," said Richard Courtois, Head of Racing Studio of Infogrames. "The great awareness of the American Le Mans Series will entice millions of Americans to experience through our video games the unique feeling of Le Mans-style endurance sports car racing."
Infogrames Entertainment (Euronext: 5257) is one of the world's leading publishers and distributors of video games for all consoles, personal computers and Macintosh hardware, as well as all available interactive platforms. With its acquisition of the former Hasbro Interactive (now Infogrames Interactive, Inc.), which is managed by its publicly traded U.S. subsidiary Infogrames, Inc. (Nasdaq: IFGM), Infogrames Entertainment has become the second-largest publisher of interactive entertainment software in the U.S. and one of the top five publishers in the world.
Infogrames has an extensive catalog of video games to reach players of all ages, interests and regions of the world. Included in its more than 1,000-title catalog are some of the industry's most popular franchises, such as Alone in the Dark, Civilization, Deer Hunter, Driver, Independence War, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Test Drive, Unreal Tournament and V-Rally. In addition, Infogrames has exclusive rights to some of the world's most popular and recognizable licenses, including Warner Bros. Looney Tunes, Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible, Monopoly, Survivor and Major League Baseball.
Infogrames distributes its games to more than 60 countries worldwide, with a particularly strong presence in Europe and the U.S. In Europe, the company's distribution network encompasses more than 30,000 retail outlets spanning all territories. In North America, the network of distribution reaches more than 22,000 retail outlets, including mass merchants, specialty retailers, online outlets and superstores such as Wal-Mart, Kmart and Toys 'R' Us.
The American Le Mans Series is a series of North American sports car races based on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world's most famous endurance race. American Le Mans Series races feature four classes of race cars competing for class wins and the overall win, with the fields including many of the same drivers and cars that compete at Le Mans. The series holds events at many of North America's premier permanent road racing facilities as well as at temporary circuits in key major markets. The series motto is "For the Fans" and all events feature driver autograph sessions and open paddocks. All events are on live television in the United States. Well-known automotive brand names such as Audi, Cadillac, Corvette, Dodge, Ferrari, MG, Nissan, Panoz, Porsche and Saleen are represented on the series. The series, which has its headquarters in Braselton, Ga., was founded in 1999 by entrepreneur Don Panoz and is sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA).
