American Le Mans Series, Porsche Help Atlanta German Consulate Launch Centennial Celebration
Atlanta - The American Le Mans Series is known for its international flavor, with drivers, race teams and manufacturers from throughout the world participating in a series of North American professional sports car races.
On the eve of this weekend's Chevy presents Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta, the ALMS joined with participating manufacturer Porsche, Porsche racing team BAM! (British American Motorsport) and Porsche factory racing driver Marc Lieb to help launch the Centennial Celebration of the German Consulate of Atlanta, the first German consulate established in the Southeastern United States 100 years ago.
At a kickoff event in front of the Consulate in Atlanta's Midtown section, Hans-Joerg Brunner, Consul-General, Federal Republic of Germany - Atlanta, greeted ALMS and Porsche representatives, Lieb and members of the BAM! team, which brought its #43 YES! Network Porsche 911 GT3 RSR that will compete in Saturday's Petit Le Mans. Brunner received gifts from all, including Porsche and Panoz model racing cars and a BAM! team shirt.
The BAM! Porsche and the Alex Job Racing Porsche that Lieb drives will carry decals in the Petit Le Mans to honor the Centennial of the Atlanta German Consulate.
A special exhibition at the Goethe Institute, which teaches German culture and language at the consulate, located at Atlanta's Colony Square, will commemorate German culture and the 100-year anniversary of the consulate for the next three months. Wolfgang Krueger, CEO of the "Friends of the Goethe" organization that helps support the Institute, also participated in Tuesday's ceremonies.
